Rev. Herbert Chillman Capen, 75, died Easter Sunday, April 1, 2018, in Winter Park, Florida after a long illness. He was the husband of over 50 years of Marie-France (Chaloin) Capen. His forefathers were amongst the founders of the town of Stoughton and included Adam Capen whose house still stands. Mr. Capen was raised and educated in Marshfield, MA and St. Petersburg FL. He settled permanently in Winter Park, Florida 15 years ago. He was a Veteran of the US Army. Mr. Capen was an accomplished athlete and attended the University of Florida where he was a member of the football team. He later graduated from Gordon College. He was a longtime Baptist Minister and served in several churches, including in Boston, Maine and France. Mr. Capen was a lover of both music and history, but his greatest love was that of his family. He was a loving husband and father who will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Marie-France Capen.
Combined Funeral Services for Herbert and his daughter Myriam Capen will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Monday, April 16 at 11 AM. Visiting Hours Sunday from 2-4 PM. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton.
