Helen E. Spillane, 95, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died on Tuesday, April 20 surrounded by her family. Daughter of the late John T. and Annie (McDonald) Spillane, she was born in Brockton. Helen was a resident of Stoughton for most of her life and summered in Hull for 65 years. She was a graduate of St. Mary's School, Stoughton High School, Class of 1932 and Boston City Hospital School of Nursing in 1935.
Helen was a registered nurse and supervisor at Braemoor Nursing Home in Brockton for 10 years before retiring in 1980. She had previously worked at Boston City Hospital for 35 years. She was Past President of Boston City Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Assn. as well as Past President of the Guild of St. Radegonde Catholic Nurses Assn. She was a member of the New England Council of Catholic Nurses and received an award for outstanding service. Helen was Past Treasurer of the Mass. State Nurses Assn. She was an avid Red Sox fan.
Helen is survived by her sisters, Anna G. Greene and Mary A. Krowski both of Stoughton and Jean E. LeBarre of FL. She was the aunt of Joseph F. Krowski of Easton, Barbara A. Farley and Marybeth G. Anderson both of Stoughton, John S. Krowski of Canton, Michele H. Maguire of Bridgewater, Annemarie Nye of FL, Marlene d'Entremont of Berkley and James B. LeBarre of Martha's Vineyard. She is also survived by several great nieces and nephews and several great great nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Saturday, April 24 at 10 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at St. James Church, Stoughton at 11 AM. Visiting Hours Friday 5-8 PM. Burial will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton. Donations in Helen's name may be made to Boston City Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Assn., c/o Margaret Mogan, 5 Pauline Dr., Andover, MA 02810.
