Helen (Minakakis) Spiliakos, 102, died Friday, January 31, 2025, at her home in Norton, after a period of declining health. Born as Eleni Minakakis in 1922, in Kalyvia, Sohas, Sparta, Greece, she was raised and educated in Kalyvia and Katsarou, Sparta. In 1950, she married Konstantinos Spiliakos in Sparta, and together they spent over 68 years married and raised two beloved children before his death in 2018. After their marriage, they spent many years in Vresthena, Sparta and in 1969, came to the United States and settled in Springfield, MA. While in Springfield, she worked as a Seamstress for the Kinsler Company for several years. Helen and her family lived in Springfield until 1982 when they moved Norton, which has been their home ever since. She was a dedicated communicant of St. Catherine's Greek Orthodox Church in Braintree and also of St. Gregory’s Greek Orthodox Church in Mansfield for many years. Helen was proud of her Greek heritage and loved to reminisce with family and friends about their upbringing and their days living in Greece. She was a dedicated and loving mother and grandmother who held a special place in the lives of her grandchildren. In her free time, she enjoyed sewing, knitting, gardening, cooking and baking and her most cherished times were spent in the company of her family.
Helen was the mother of Maria Orfanos and her late husband Nicholas of Norton and the late Pandelis “Peter” Spiliakos and his surviving wife Stacia Spiliakos of Easton. She was the beloved Yia Yia of Demetra Orfanos, Kosta Spiliakos and Ari Spiliakos. She was the sister of the late Chrisafo Lambropoulos, Ilias Minakakis, Evangelia Gialelis, Konstantinos Minakakis and Dimitri Minakakis. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
A Visiting Hour will be held in the St. Gregory the Theologian Greek Orthodox Church, 1007 West St., Mansfield, MA 02048 on Friday, February 7, 2025, from 10-11 AM followed by Funeral Services at 11 AM. Burial will follow at Canton Corner Cemetery in Canton. Donations in Helen’s memory may be made to the St. Gregory the Theologian Greek Orthodox Church at the above address or saintgregorythetheologian.org
