Helder Matias

Helder Matias, 64, died Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at the Cape Cod Hospital after suffering from a fall. He was the Beloved Husband of Octavia Serpa of Taunton. Born in Aljezur, Algarve in Portugal, he was raised and educated in Portugal and was a Veteran of the Portuguese Navy. He came to the United States at age 23. Mr. Matias was a resident of Taunton for the past 14 years, and formerly of Florida. He worked for many years at Power General in Canton. An accomplished craftsman, in his free time he enjoyed home renovation projects. He was an avid photographer and enjoyed traveling.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children; Maria Lupe Winchester of WA, Helder Matias of CA, Jennifer Matias and Nicole Matias both of FL and his step-daughter Jill Smith also of FL.. He was the brother of Conceicao Cordeiro and her husband Ilidio and Celeste Pacheco and her husband Jose all of Portugal. He was the grandfather of Tre and Colt Winchester. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be held from Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Saturday, October 3, at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Friday from 4-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Helder's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
