Harold J. Jay, 83, died at the Island Terrace Nursing Home in Lakeville on Thursday, September 7 after a period of failing health. He was the husband of the late Mary V. (Corcoran) Jay. Born in Somerville he was educated in Prince Edward Island, Canada. He was a resident of Stoughton for 45 years before moving to Lakeville 4 years ago. Mr. Jay was an U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. He was a machinist at Gill Machine in Stoughton for 30 years before retiring 15 years ago. He loved antique cars and antique tools and he was a blacksmith as a hobby.
Mr. Jay is survived by his children, Rev. Francis A. Jay of PEI, Canada, Carl A. Jay of Hollliston, M. Peter Jay of Brockton, Mary L. Myers of Bridgewater, Theresa R. Julian of TX, Anne M. Lowe of Plymouth and Patrick H. Jay of Stoughton, as well as his siblings, Camilla Smith of VA and James Jay of Fairhaven. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Monday, September 11 at 9:15 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:15 AM. Visiting Hours Sunday 2-5 PM. Private burial will be held in Prince Edward Island, Canada.
