Harley Ostis, 90, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died peacefully on Sunday, November 17, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton surrounded by family. Born and raised in Roxbury, he attended Roxbury Schools and was a graduate of Boston Latin School. Following graduation, he proudly served in the US Navy for 8 years. In 1964 he married the love of his life, Barbara Ann Cronin, and together they spent over 60 years married until her death eight months ago. Their marriage was full of love and their world revolved around their 2 daughters, Stephanie and Stacy, and four grandchildren. Harley was a resident of Stoughton for over 55 years. It was very rare to see him not wearing one of his many scally caps. He enjoyed spending time by the ocean. As a child, he spent his summers in Old Orchard Beach, ME and, for over 25 years, enjoyed spending time at his beach home in Fairhaven. Harley worked as a truck driver for several area trucking companies including Hartman Transportation and retired many years ago. Harley and Barbara loved to travel and were regulars at the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas, with trips several times per year to gamble and to catch a show. He was a music fan and especially loved Elvis and Tom Jones. He was always dancing and at every function everyone wanted a turn on the dance floor with him. He was a Boston Sports fan and loved Ted Williams. His most treasured times were spent with his family.
Harley is survived by his children, Stephanie McGowan and her husband James of Foxboro, Stacy Ostis and her late husband David of Foxboro, Nicholas Ostis of Brighton, Theodore Ostis and his wife Tomo of Japan, and Gina Ostis and her husband Phil Richardson of Quincy. He was the grandfather of Annabella, Ryanne, Harley, Chloe, Julian, John and Jesse. He was preceded in death by his parents Nicholas Ostoposides and Anna Lazarides Ostoposides and his siblings, John Ostis, Sotirios (Sid) Ostis, and Peter Ostoposides. He is also survived by his sister in laws Maureen Cronin of Quincy, Evelyn Ostis of California, and several nieces and nephews.
Per Harley’s wishes, A private family burial was held in the Evergreen Cemetery in Stoughton and a Celebration of his Life will be held at a date and time to be announced in the near future. In lieu of flowers, donations in Harley’s memory may be made to MSPCA-Angell, Attn: Donations, 350 South Huntington Ave, Boston, MA 02130.
