Gordon R. Sawyer, 66, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died Tuesday, May 24 at home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Ruth H. (Sliney) Sawyer. Son of the late J. Gordon and Marguerite (Green) Sawyer, he was born and raised in Goshen, NY and graduated from Goshen High School, Class of 1962. He earned a degree from Graham Junior College in Boston, Class of 1966 and the Graduate School of Savings Banking at Brown University in Providence, RI. He was a resident of Stoughton for 42 years. Mr. Sawyer was the Vice President of Hyde Park Savings Bank for 17 years before retiring at age 57. He was a former Chairman of the Board at Hyde Park YMCA for 9 years and was a member of the Jaycees in Stoughton. He enjoyed wintering in St. Petersburg, FL, playing golf and especially spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Sawyer is survived by his children, David R. Sawyer and his wife Lisa of Franklin and Judith H. Saraf and her husband Steven of N. Attleboro, as well as his grandchildren, Allyson, Katelyn and Cameron Sawyer and Nicholas, Andrew and Christopher Saraf. He was the brother of the late Gail Longworth. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Saturday, May 28 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Friday from 4-8 PM. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton.
