Gordon F. "Fred" Coombes, Jr., 77, died Saturday, June 11, at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton after a period of failing health. He was the husband of 48 years of Clare M. "Mitzi" (Monahan) Coombes. Born in Boston, he was a graduate of Dorchester High School, Class of 1950. Mr. Coombes was a resident of Stoughton since 1964. He worked as a machinist for American Stamping for many years. He also worked as a Nurses Aide at the Lemul Shattuck Hospital in Boston for several years. He has been retired for several years. In his free time, he enjoyed bowling and playing bingo and cards and traveling to Foxwoods.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children; Ann M. Lieberman of Andover, Donna L. Flynn, Robert V. Coombes and Nancy J. Wilbar all of Stoughton, Linda L. Billotta of Taunton and Debra J. Coombes of Brockton. He was the brother of the late Evelyn Stewart. He was predeceased by his grandsons Kevin Coombes and John Coombes. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Tuesday, June 14 at 10 AM. Visiting Hours Monday 5-8PM. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton. Donations in Fred's memory may be made to Children's Hospital, 300 Longwood Ave., Boston, 02115.
