Gladys G. (Porter) Hamm, 91, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died peacefully at Copley at Stoughton on Saturday, March 28, 2020. She was the wife of the late George C. Hamm. Daughter of the late Andrew Jackson Porter and Adele (Gatling) Porter. Gladys was born in Murfreesboro, NC. Gladys was a graduate of Calvin Scott Brown High School in Winton, NC. She worked for over 20 years at Crispus Attucks Daycare Center in Roxbury as a daycare teacher before retiring in 1991. Gladys was a lifetime member of the Order of Eastern Star, Rising Sun Chapter in Boston and a member of the Stoughton Fair Housing Association. She was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Brockton. She loved gardening, especially growing her vegetable garden.
Gladys was the mother of Ronnie L. Hamm and his wife Deborah of Stoughton, Wanda D. Hamm of Quincy and the late Victor C. Hamm. She was the sister of the late Bertal, Henry Lee, Dan, Andrew, Otis, Joe Jordan, Willie, Ora T. Grace, Loretta, Virginia and Viola. She is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, funeral services private. Interment will take place at Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton. Donations in Gladys' memory may be made to the D.A.V., PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
