Gerard F. Ryan, 78, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died Wednesday, May 4 at home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Jane M. (Peach) Ryan. Born in Limerick, Ireland, he was educated in Limerick before moving to Medway, MA, where he graduated from St. Mary's High School in Milford, Class of 1950. Mr. Ryan was a resident of Stoughton for the past 43 years. He was a Staff Sergeant in the US Air Force and a Veteran of the Korean Conflict. Mr. Ryan was an Electronic Technician at Hazeltine Corp. in Braintree for 20 years before retiring in 1992. He was a member of the VFW Post 1645 in Stoughton. In his free time he enjoyed playing golf, reading and spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife of 50 years, Mr. Ryan is survived by his children, Kevin G. Ryan and his wife Laurinda and Kerry A. Blanchard and her husband Timothy all of Bridgewater, Michael J. Ryan and his wife Melinda of Easton, John P. Ryan of Mattapoisett and Deirdre M. Ryan of Brockton. He was the brother of John P. Ryan of Ireland, Thomas J. Ryan of England and Maureen Fitzgerald of Chicago, IL. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Tuesday, May 10 at 8 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 9 AM. Visiting Hours Monday from 4-8 PM. Burial will be private. Donations in Gerard's name may be made to the Pan-Massachusetts Challenge, 77 4th Avenue, Needham, MA 02494.
