Gerard D. Galizio, 77, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died peacefully at Bridges of Westwood on Monday, October 10, 2016. He was the husband of Claire M. (O'Brien) Galizio for 58 years. Son of the late Dominic F. and Esther L. (Wheeler) Galizio, he was born and raised in South Boston and graduated from Boston Technical High School. He was a resident of Stoughton since 1968. Jerry was a Specialist 4th Class in the U.S. Army, serving from 1957-1960. Mr. Galizio was a Detective with the Stoughton Police Department, where he worked from 1970-1993. He then was a driver for Tools Unlimited in Stoughton for 18 years before retiring in 2011. Jerry was a member of the Stoughton Police Association and the Sons of Italy in Stoughton. He was active in STOYAC for many years. He enjoyed working around his home and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Galizio is survived by his daughters, Pamela A. Lewis and her husband Brian of Bridgewater and Kerry A. Pires and her husband Stephen of Easton and his sons, Keith A. Galizio and his wife Paula of Bridgewater and Gerard F. Galizio and his wife Diane of Norton. He was the grandfather of Zachary, Melissa and Mackenzie Lewis, Kailey, Corey and Christopher Pires and Christina, Kristen and Gregory Galizio. He was the great-grandfather of Zoe Ann Lewis. He was the brother of Kathleen Ready of Braintree and the late Francis Galizio. He is also survived by his uncle, Francis Galizio, his longtime childhood friend, Paul Sherman and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Holy Cross Church, 225 Purchase St., S. Easton on Friday, October 21 at 11 AM followed by a reception at Easton Country Club. Visiting hours omitted. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jerry's memory may be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 800 West Cummings Park, Suite 3100, Woburn, MA 01801 or a charity of your choice.
