George C. Polillio, 104, died at the Hellenic Nursing Home in Canton on Saturday, December 24 after a period of failing health. He was married to his wife, Mary P. (Carrara) Polillio for 75 years. A lifelong Stoughton resident, Mr. Polillio was educated in Stoughton Schools. He was self-employed most of his life and was the owner of George Polillio Wholesale Fruit for many years and also operated a landscaping and paving company. He was a member of the Sons of Italy in Stoughton. In his free time he loved training horses and won numerous races at Suffolk Downs.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Polillio is survived by his daughters, Barbara A. Maher of MD and Joan M. Payne of N. Easton. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Dorothy C. Carter. He was also one of thirteen siblings.
Visitation will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Wednesday, December 28 from 9:30-11 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 11:30 AM. Interment will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Stoughton. Donations in George's name may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105-1905.
