George K. Pappas, 89, died at the Sun Coast Hospital in Largo, FL on Friday, April 27. He was the husband of Ruth O. (Raby) Pappas. A longtime resident of Stoughton, he has lived in Florida for over 25 years, most recently in Largo. Mr. Pappas was a graduate of Stoughton High School, Class of 1935 and lettered in 3 sports. He was an insurance agent for John Hancock Insurance Company in Quincy and Brockton for 31 years before retiring in 1979.
Mr. Pappas was a member of the Stoughton Town Team baseball team and a charter member of the Stoughton Babe Ruth League. He coached Stoughton Babe Ruth for 18 years and Canton Little League for several years. He also coached with Fran Cowgill in the Cranberry League. Mr. Pappas was a charter member of the Randolph Kiwanis and Stoughton Soccer League. He was also a member of the IOOF and the "S" Club both in Stoughton as well as the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Brockton. He was Past President of Park Royale in Pinellas Park, FL and was past shuffleboard champion.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Pappas is survived by his daughters, Angela C. Pappas of GA, Sophia M. Crawford-Casey of TX and Georgia Ruth "Dolly" Vera of W. Yarmouth as well as his sisters, Bessie Trotta and Mary Pappas both of Stoughton. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Saturday, May 5 at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Service at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Brockton at 10 AM. Visiting Hours Friday 6-8 PM. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Stoughton.
