George E. Makris, 94, died January 11, 2017, at the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. He was the husband of 67 years of Enid M. (Erikson) Makris. Born in Boston, he was raised in West Roxbury and was a graduate of Boston Schools. He was a resident of Brockton for the past 3 years after living in Yarmouthport for the past 30 years and living in Stoughton for many years previous to that. He was a Veteran of the United States Army and served in WWII and also served in the National Guard. Mr. Makris worked as a Salesman for several area companies for many years, retiring several years ago. He was an active Ham Radio operator under the call sign of KD1B and was a member of the Military Affiliate Radio System, a volunteer group that would connect deployed servicemen with their families at home. He also was a Volunteer Radio Operator for the United States Coast Guard in Chatham for several years. Mr. Makris enjoyed singing in the choir at the St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Centerville and the St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Harwich and formerly was a member of the Christ the King Church in Stoughton and Gethsemane Lutheran Churches in Brockton. He was also a member of the British American Club on Cape Cod. In his free time, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Stephen G. Makris and his wife Linda of Mansfield, Paul E. Makris and his wife Nikki of CA, David P. Makris and his wife Kathleen of NY and Lesley A. Makris and her husband Harry John of Randolph. He was the grandfather of Freya Gaertner, Kelly Rezzuti, Danika Wade, Kasey Makris, Michelle Makris, Nicholas Makris, Michael John and the late Brian Makris and Alex John. He was the great grandfather of Corinne Gaertner, Penelope Wade, Genevieve Gaertner, Dean Rezzuti and Troy Rezzuti. He was the brother of the late James and Eric Makris.
Funeral Services will be held in the St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 310 Route 137, Harwich, MA on Saturday, January 14 at 11 AM. Visiting Hours will be held in the church prior to the service from 10-11 AM. Interment will follow at the Chandler Gray Cemetery in Yarmouth.
