George E. Donovan

Former long-time Sharon resident, George Edward Donovan ESQ., 78, entered the gates of Heaven Friday November 4, 2011, at his home in Stoughton with his beloved family at his side.

Born March 29, 1933, in Boston, MA, son of Francis V. Donovan, Boston Detective Sergeant, and Mother Alice Donovan, he was raised in West Roxbury and was a graduate of Boston Latin School. He was also a graduate of Harvard College and Boston College Law School. Mr. Donovan spent more than 50 years in Sharon. He and his wife, Joan, met on a blind date at Lake Massapoag and built their lives together and raised their family.

George Donovan was a man of deep Catholic faith, and unwavering integrity. He was dedicated to family matters first. "They broke the mold after he was born".

George spent over 25 years in service to the town of Sharon in numerous positions such as Selectmen, Moderator, the Warrant, Finance and Capital Outlay committees, Lector at Our Lady of Sorrows, and was the best little league coach ever. George was the Chairman of Lyne, Woodworth & Evarts LLP in Boston. He was also a Charter member of the Catholic Lawyers Guild and Chairman of the Probate Section of the Mass. Bar Association.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joan (Carroll) Donovan, of Stoughton, formerly of Sharon and Hyde Park. He was the Loving Father of Rosemarie Baker and her husband Bradley of Hanover, LTC (USA Ret) Denise Marie Donovan USA of VA, Mr. Christopher Myles Donovan of CA and Mr. Timothy Michael Donovan of Easton. He was the Cherished Grandfather of Taylor Donovan Baker, Morgan Leigh Baker and Madison Marie Baker. Mr. Donovan was the brother of Francis V. Donovan of CT and the late Alice Murray and Eleanor McVinney

Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Tuesday at 10 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 59 Cottage St., Sharon at 11 AM. Visiting Hours Monday from 4-8 PM. Interment will take place at Rock Ridge Cemetery, Sharon. Donations in George's Memory may be made to the Mass. Citizens for Life, The Schrafft Center, 529 Main Street, Boston, MA 02140 or to the Pine St. Inn, Attn: Abby Spooner, 444 Harrison Ave., Boston, MA 02118.
