Franklin Delano Austin, 69, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died unexpectedly at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton on Sunday, June 20. Born in Dorchester, he was educated in Boston schools. He was a resident of Stoughton for over 40 years. Mr. Austin was a mechanic with the MBTA for over 30 years before retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Randolph Elks. In his free time, he enjoyed cooking and fixing things.
Mr. Austin was the father of Harry P. Austin and his wife Theresa of Easton, John G. Austin and his girlfriend Laurie of Freetown, Cherie A. McGaughey and her husband Mark of Stoughton and the late Franklin D. Austin, Jr. He was the grandfather of Justine, Stephanie, Michelle, Robert, Garrett, Gina and Mark and the great-grandfather of Corey and Giovanna. He was the step-father of Keryn. He was the brother of Paul J. Austin and his wife Rilla of NY, Harriet Comar of Concord, George Austin of CA and the late Mary Austin, Rosalie Cordaro and Nancy Cordaro. He is also survived by his former wife, Rose (Cassarino) Austin as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Thursday, June 24 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Wednesday 4-8 PM. Burial will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton. In lieu of flowers, donations in Franklin's name may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
