Frank M. Powers, Sr., 81, died unexpectedly Wednesday, April 30 in Miami, FL. He was the devoted and loving husband of the late Lorraine T. (Haley) Powers. Born, raised and educated in Cambridge, he was a resident of Stoughton for 50 years. He was a Veteran of the United States Coast Guard. Mr. Powers was a member of Sheet Metal Workers Union Local 17 in Dorchester and was a past member of the Greater Boston/Norwood Homing Pigeon Club. He was an active member of the Miami Elks Lodge # 948 and the Randolph Elks. He was also a member of the Royal Caribbean International Crown & Anchor Society. An avid collector of antique cars, he will be remembered as devoting his life to his family. His family is his legacy.
Mr. Powers was the charming, handsome, sometimes stubborn, but always adored father, mentor and friend of 6 children; Darlene M. Donnelly and her loving friend Bob Lee of Lakeville, Linda Rodenbush and her husband Danny of Foxboro, Loretta J. Galanis and her husband Bob of Canton, Maureen Powers-Maiocco and her husband Steven of NY, Frank M. Powers Jr. and his wife Sandra of NH and Lorraine T. Paukner and her husband Robert of Stoughton. He was the loving fianc of Susan E. Myers of Miami, FL. Mr. Powers was the respected, loving and coolest Pop to 17 grandchildren, David and Maureen Donnelly, Haley, DJ & Chip Rodenbush, James, Alexandra, Christopher & Victoria Galanis, Jimmy, Brittany, Kelsey, Frankie & John Powers and Michael, Amanda and Jack Paukner. He was Pop-Pop to Katie, Kallan, Haley & Jack. He was the adored father and grandfather to his Miami Family; Michelle, Gary, Emily & Gregory Walters, Gabrielle, Andy, Alexandra, Jonathan & William Helfgott and Danielle & Oliver Hoke. He was the brother of Eva Lane of OH and the late Wilfred, Robert, Wilton and John Powers and Marie Johnson. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Tuesday, May 6 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at St. James Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Monday from 4-8 PM. Interment will take place at Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Donations in Frank's memory may be made in honor of the care his great granddaughter Kallan Donnelly has received at Childrens Hospital by donating to Healing Little Hearts, PO Box 1535, Mattapoisett, MA 02739.
