Frank R. Porter, age 82, passed away peacefully at the Brockton VA on June 28, 2024. Born, raised, and educated in Dorchester, he was the son of the late Frank Porter and Dorothy Joyce (Lamoretti). He was a long-time resident of Sharon and was a resident of Attleboro for the past 20+ years. He attended Wentworth Institute of Technology and earned an Associate’s Degree, and then went on to Northeastern University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering. He worked as a manufacturing engineer at Nuclear Metals out of Concord, MA, before retiring at 59 years old. He was active at First Baptist Church in Sharon for many years and was a Vietnam Veteran in the Army. Frank was a devoted member of the Rising Star Lodge A.F. & A.M. Massachusetts Freemasons out of Stoughton for 60 years, earning his title as a Master Mason and District Deputy, and forming many close friendships within the community. He was also active in the Kilwinning Club out of Stoughton, a Scottish Degree Team, and was always involved in the Scottish Highland Games. Frank was a world traveler who enjoyed spending time with his family. His time and dedication to the Masons was always valuable and important to him throughout the years of his life.
Frank is survived by his children Deborah Porter of Dorchester, Michelle Porter of Stoughton, and Russell Porter and his wife Pauline of Bothell, Washington. He is also survived by his grandchildren Hannah, Scotland, Emily, Jasmine, Allison, and Ty. He leaves behind his sister Jean Falvey, half-sisters Elizabeth Hawes and Frances Cardullo, and half-brother Arthur Joyce and was preceded in death by his sister Dorothy Wilson, half-sisters Eileen Lambert and Anne Joyce and half-brother Bobby Joyce. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held at the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park Street (Rt 27.), Stoughton, on Monday July 8th from 4-7 PM. A Funeral Service will be held the next day, Tuesday, July 9th at the First Baptist Church, 2 South Main Street in Sharon at 11 AM. Interment will be held at Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton. In lieu of flowers, donations in Frank’s memory may be made to the Scots’ Charitable Society at https://scots-charitable.org/donate/, or at Shriner’s Children at https://www.shrinerschildrens.org/en/giving.
