Deacon Francis X. Heffernan, 90, of Stoughton, passed peacefully Saturday, April 21, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton. Francis was a Roman Catholic Permanent Deacon of the Archdiocese of Boston, Ordained with the First Class of Deacons in 1976. He served 36 years with 5 different Pastors, 3 Archbishops and 2 Auxiliary Bishops in serving God's Holy people at the Immaculate Conception Church in Stoughton.
Deacon Heffernan was married for 50 years to the late Lorraine (Wynott) Heffernan. He was the father of Sharon Lavoie and her husband Paul of Holden, Brian Heffernan and his wife Marci of Pembroke and the late Francis X. Heffernan, Jr. He was the grandfather of Emily Plante and her husband Nicholas of Holden, Dr. David Lavoie and his wife Dr. Mary Lavoie of Scarborough, ME and Patrick, Luke and Caroline Heffernan all of Pembroke, as well as his great-grandchildren, Renee and Pierce Rettig and Cecilia and Rose Lavoie. He is also survived by his special friend and prayer partner Carol Anne Romanelli of Stoughton and dear friend Donald Howard Platt of Kirkland, WA.
Fran was a Seaman 2nd Class in the U.S. Navy and a Veteran of World War II. He was a sales representative for Sunshine Biscuits for 36 years. Deacon Heffernan wants all to know that he had a great time in life. God Bless everyone.
Funeral will be held from the Immaculate Conception Church, 122 Canton St., Stoughton Thursday, April 26 at 11 AM. Visiting Hours Wednesday from 4-7 PM at the Immaculate Conception Church. Interment will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton.
