Florence A. (Hanlon) Leaver, 86, died Saturday, December 21, at her home after a period of failing health. She was the wife of the late Gerald J. Leaver. Born and raised in Dorchester, she was a graduate of Dorchester Schools and Emmanuel College. Prior to raising her family, she worked for several years as a Social Worker for the State of Massachusetts. She was a dedicated homemaker and mother who was selflessly devoted to raising her family. Her experiences as a social worker aided her in later years as an advocate for the education and betterment of children with special needs. Along with her husband, she was a longtime volunteer with the Department of Mental Retardation. She was a longtime daily communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Stoughton. An avid fan of all of the Boston sports teams, in her free time, she enjoyed reading.
She was the devoted mother of Janet M. Leaver D.O. and Paul Leaver and his wife Barbara all of Stoughton, George R. Leaver and his wife Lynne of Lakeville, John M. Leaver and his wife Tammie Cumming-Leaver of Fairhaven and the late Gerald J. Leaver, Jr. and Virginia Leaver. She is also survived by her daughter in law Norine Leaver of Stoughton. She was the beloved grandmother of Colleen Leaver and her companion Sean Curran, Gerald "Joe" Leaver III and his fiancé Casey Bowdish, Mark and Kevin Leaver, Chris Leaver and his companion Alicia Johnson, Julianne Leaver, Robert and Corey Leaver. She was the great grandmother of Callie Leaver. She was the sister of Gertrude Wilson of Wareham and the late Eunice Sullivan and Helen Gilpin. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Friday at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church at 10:30AM. Visiting Hours Thursday from 4-8 PM. Interment will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton.
