Filipe L. Mendonca, 76, died Tuesday, April 26, 2011, at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston after a period of failing health. He was the husband of Maria (Ribeiro) Mendonca. Born in Flores, Azores, Portugal, he was raised and educated there. He moved to the United States in 1958 and settled in California. Mr. Mendonca moved to Stoughton in 1968. He was a factory worker at J. Baker and Morse Shoe in Canton for over 20 years, retiring over 15 years ago. He was a member of the Holy Ghost Society in Stoughton. In his free time, he enjoyed traveling to Flores.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son John F. Mendonca of Stoughton and his sisters Maria M. Avelar and Olivia M. Lima both of Stoughton. He was predeceased by his sister Julia Costa. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Monday, May 2 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Sunday from 4-7 PM. Burial will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton.
