Eugene L. "Gene" MacDonald, 74, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died peacefully at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston on Sunday, April 13. He was the husband of Barbara Ann (Sweeney) MacDonald. Born in Boston, he was raised in Jamaica Plain. He was a graduate of Jamaica Plain High School, Class of 1957 and Northeastern University. He was a resident of Stoughton for the past 49 years. Mr. MacDonald was a facilities manager at Emerson Swan, Inc. in Randolph for the past 27 years . He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Jamaica Plain and the Bow Lake Camp Owners Association in Stratford, NH. An avid Boston sports fan, he enjoyed playing in the Stoughton Softball Slo-pitch league. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, Mr. MacDonald is survived by his children, Bruce E. MacDonald and his wife Carol of Bridgewater, Lynne A. Guerard and her husband Paul of Dorchester, Brian D. MacDonald and his wife Robin of Middleboro and Lori A. Dike and her husband Doug of Easton. He was the brother of Dorothy Hender of Wrentham, Allan G. MacDonald of Shrewsbury, John B. MacDonald of Raynham and the late Hilda Maloon. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Wednesday, March 16 at 11 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at St. James Church, Stoughton at Noon. Visiting Hours Tuesday from 4-8 PM. Interment will take place at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. In lieu of flowers, donations in Gene's memory may be sent to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, PO Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284.
