Enid M. (Erikson) Makris, 93, died March 20, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton. She was the wife of 67 years of the late George E. Makris, who died January 10. Born in Somerville, she was raised and educated in Somerville and Medford and was a graduate of Medford High School. Mrs. Makris continued her education at Lawrence Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and became a Registered Nurse. During World War II, she volunteered as a non enlisted military nurse to aid in the caring of soldiers. She was a resident of Yarmouthport for over 30 years, previously living and raising her family in Stoughton. She worked as a Nurse at the former Goddard Hospital in Stoughton and also as a private duty nurse for many years, retiring in 1986. She was baptized at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Roxbury and was a longtime member of the St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Harwich. At St. Peter's, she was a member of the Esther Circle and the Vasa Club. Mrs. Makris loved Cape Cod and the beach. In her free time, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening and swimming. She also enjoyed traveling to Foxwoods and spending time with her family.
Mrs. Makris is survived by her four children; Stephen G. Makris and his wife Linda of Mansfield, Paul E. Makris and his wife Nikki of CA, David P. Makris and his wife Kathleen of NY and Lesley A. Makris and her husband Harry John of Randolph. She was the grandmother of Freya Gaertner, Kelly Rezzuti, Danika Wade, Kasey Makris, Michelle Makris, Nicholas Makris, Michael John and the late Brian Makris and Alex John. Enid was the great grandmother of Corinne Gaertner, Penelope Wade, Genevieve Gaertner, Dean Rezzuti and Troy Rezzuti. She was the sister of Herbert L. Erikson of Watertown and the late Erik Erikson, Herman Erikson, Berndt "Bert" Erikson and Ethel Smith. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held in the St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 310 Route 137, Harwich, MA on Saturday at 11 AM. Visiting Hours will be held in the church prior to the service from 10-11 AM. Interment will follow at the Chandler Gray Cemetery in Yarmouth. Donations in Enid's memory may be made to the St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 310 Route 137, Harwich, MA 02645.
