Emma J. (MacNeil) MacDonnell, 84, died Wednesday January 31, at the Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton. She was the wife of Hugh A. MacDonnell. Born in Inverness, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada, she was a graduate of St. Martha's School of Nursing in Nova Scotia. Mrs. MacDonnell was a resident of Stoughton for the past 5 years, previously living in Bourne and Newton. Mrs. MacDonnell worked as a Registered Nurse at Newton Wellesley Hospital in Newton for over 30 years, retiring over 20 years ago. In her free time, she enjoyed knitting, baking, gardening and spending time with her family.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children: Maggie Nunes and her husband John of Berkley, Paula L. Lester and her husband John of Brockton, Hugh G. MacDonnell and his wife Marian of Stoughton, Jean Rimmer and her husband Stephen of Carver, Laura Ames and her husband Christopher of Stoughton and John MacDonnell and his wife Jean of Cohasset. She was the grandmother of Leslie Baker and her husband Tim, David Lordan, Gillian Lordan, Jameson MacDonnell, Marisa MacDonnell, Erica Ames, Drew Ames, Sydney Rimmer, Merideth Roche and Paige Roche.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Monday, February 5 at 9:15 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:15 AM. Visiting Hours Sunday from 2-5 PM. Donations in Emma's name may be made to the charity of one's choice. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton.
