Ellen M. Matthews

Ellen M. Matthews, age 58, died peacefully January 13th after a long and brave battle with illness. Beloved wife of Al Merrill of Brockton; cherished daughter of the late Russell and Helen Matthews; dear sister of Marilyn Hausammann and her husband Mark of Stoughton; loving aunt of Christine Hausammann and the late Nicholas Hausammann. Devoted friend of Clare Farrell of Randolph. Most recently employed by State Street as an Executive Assistant in the Office of the President. Ellen was happiest at family gatherings and relished being in their company for holidays, birthdays and barbecues. Undaunted by her illness, Ellen's courage, fortitude and grace inspired and struck awe in all those who knew her. Ellen's family is forever grateful for the loving care provided by the staff of 3 West at Spaulding Hospital, Cambridge, the nurses of the intensive care unit at Brigham & Women's Hospital and her compassionate physician, Dr. Christopher Fanta.

Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St.(Rt.27) Stoughton on Wednesday, January 18 at 9:00 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at St. James Church, Stoughton at 10:00 AM. Visiting Hours Tuesday from 5?8 pm. Burial will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton, MA. Donations in Ellen's name may be made to the American Lung Association, 460 Totten Pond Rd., Waltham, MA 02451.
