Elizabeth M. "Betty" (Fennell) Quinlan, 96, died November 7, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton. She was the wife of the late Eugene Quinlan. Born in Cambridge, she was raised in Cambridge and was a graduate of Cambridge High & Latin. As a young lady, she enjoyed helping her mother brew and bottle beer for the enjoyment of her father and his brothers during the Prohibition Era. She was a longtime resident of Malden, before moving to Stoughton to be closer to family 10 years ago. She considered herself a "housewife" but her responsibilities were so much more than that. After losing her husband at a young age, she raised her daughter and worked as a Medical Assembler at Hewlett Packard in Waltham for many years and previously worked at National Biscuit in Cambridge. Betty never had her driver's license or needed one as her main forms of transportation were walking and taking the T. She loved to get a deal at Filene's Basement, travel to the North End for Italian pastry, knitting and reading. She enjoyed a good game of Scrabble or cribbage and to share stories of growing up in Cambridge.
Betty is survived by her devoted daughter Jean DeVeber and her husband Peter of Stoughton. She was the loving grandmother of Mark DeVeber and his wife Susan of New Hampshire and Michelle Brazao and her husband Emanuel of Scituate. She was the great grandmother of Zachary Brazao and Gina Brazao. She was the sister of the late Mary Leydon, William Forsythe, Francis Forsythe and James Forsythe. She is survived by several nieces and nephews, including Peggy Kinch and her family of Falmouth and Phillip Quinlan and his family of Billerica and her godchild Judith Goodwin.
A Funeral Mass will be held in the Immaculate Conception Church, 122 Canton St., Stoughton on Thursday, November 10 at 12 Noon. Visiting Hours Omitted. Burial will follow at Cambridge Cemetery in Cambridge.
