Eleanor M. (Anderson) Havey, 93, a lifelong resident of Roslindale, died Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton after a period of failing health. She was the wife of the late Chester O. Havey. Born in Boston, she was raised and educated in Roslindale and was a graduate of Roslindale High School. She also attended Mount Ida College. Mrs. Havey worked in several different jobs at area companies including Blue Cross Blue Shield in Boston as an Admissions Clerk and at several area restaurants as a waitress. She was an active member of the American Legion with memberships at the Fogg Roberts Post in Hyde Park and Post #1 in Paris, France. She was also active with the Eight and Forty Club at the American Legion. She was known for her patriotism and love of veterans and the Legion. Mrs. Havey was a volunteer at the VA Hospital in Roslindale. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, crocheting and collecting dolls.
Mrs. Havey is survived by her children; Barbara J. DeCarli and her husband Mark of Brockton, Chester O. Havey and Steven F. Havey and his wife Deborah all of FL. She was the sister of Audrey P. Gordon of Hingham, Edwin F. Anderson of Winthrop and the late Robert Anderson and Warren Anderson. Ellie was the devoted grandmother of Michelle Dolan, Jason Havey, Gary Havey, Wendy Johnson and Shanna Simpkin and the great grandmother of Mark Dolan, Chelsea Dolan, Patrick Dolan, Kaida Havey and Payton Havey. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rte 27), Stoughton, on Thursday at 9:30AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception, Stoughton at 10:30AM. Visiting Hours Wednesday from 4-7 PM. Burial will follow at VA National Cemetery, Bourne at 12:45PM. Due to floral restrictions at the cemetery, Ellie's family has asked that donations in lieu of flowers be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude's Pl., Memphis, TN 38105.
