Edwin R. Lyons, Jr. passed away at home on Tuesday after a brief battle with cancer. He was 64 years old. He was the husband of Mary (Hawkes) Lyons. Born in Brockton, Mr. Lyons was a lifelong resident of Stoughton and a graduate of Stoughton Schools. He also was a graduate of Burdette Business School. He was the owner of Ed Lyons Fire Equipment in Stoughton which was founded by his late father Edwin R. Lyons, Sr. and continues with his son Edwin R. Lyons, III. He was an active member of the New England Association of Fire Chiefs, the Fire Chiefs Association of Massachusetts, New England Fire Apparatus Mechanics Association and was a past president of the New England Fire Equipment Exhibitors Association. He was active in many other fire service associations throughout New England. Prior to joining his dad in the business in 1987, Ed was the manager of Bob's Foodmart in Stoughton for more than 20 years.
Ed was an avid model railroader and enjoyed this hobby for many years as a member of the South Shore Society of Model Railroad Engineers.
In addition to his wife Mary, he is survived by his sons Edwin R. Lyons, III and wife Diane of Raynham, MA, Dennis and wife Alisa and Andrew and wife Carrie all of CT. He was the grandfather of Jennah, Connor, Dean, Bailey, Dale and Rachel. He is also survived by his mother Edna of Stoughton and siblings David of Las Vegas, NV, Dennis of Westminster, MA, sister Kathleen of Tiverton, RI and Raymond of Rockland, MA. He was the son of the late Edwin R. Lyons. He will also be missed by Mary's family in Scotland including her sisters Ellen, Grace, Agnes, Rita, Betty and Rose.
Visiting hours will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Friday, November 13 from 4-8 PM. Funeral services will be private. Ed's ashes will be scattered in the West Highland Railroad in Scotland. In lieu of flowers, Ed's family has requested that donations in Ed's name may be made to the Hospice of Greater Brockton, 500 Belmont St., Brockton, MA 02301 or to the Shriner's Hospital, 51 Blossom St., Boston, MA 02114.
