Edward E. Williams, 84, a lifelong resident of Avon, died on Saturday, November 15 at Brockton Hospital after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Shirley (Carrigan) Williams. Born and raised in Avon, he was the only son of the late Samuel and Priscilla Frances Williams. He was also a registered organ donor, which helped many others.
Ed was a graduate of Avon High School, and also attended Northeastern University, where he earned several degrees. Ed enlisted in the United States Navy where he was Boilerman First Class in the Korean War from 1951-1954 aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Tarawa. He spent most of his professional career working for the Federal Government. He worked for the Watertown Arsenal, Boston Naval Shipyard, and retired from the Army Corps of Engineering. In his retirement, he enjoyed a great love of reading, bowling, RVing, and most importantly his family, especially spending time with his grandchildren. He was also a former member of the Town of Avon School Committee, as well as several committees at the Avon Baptist Church, where he was a member.
He married Shirley in 1953. They celebrated their sixty-first wedding anniversary in July of this year. Besides his loving wife, he is survived by his three sons, Ronnie and his wife Punchy of Avon, Randy and his wife Nancy, of Memphis, TN, and David and his wife Jenny of West Bridgewater. He was also the grandfather of Christopher, Jon Thomas, Kristina, Burk, Samuel, Kelly Anne, Joshua, and Jocelyn.
Visiting hours will be held from Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Thursday, November 20 from 4-8 PM. A funeral service will be held at the Avon Baptist Church, 119 North Main St., Avon on Friday, November 21 at 10 AM, officiated by the Rev. John M. Goss. Burial will be from the Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Avon Baptist Church General Fund, 119 N. Main St., Avon, MA 02322.
