Edward L. Shockley, Sr., 74, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, September 27 surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Claire L. (Flaherty) Shockley. Born in Pulaski County, VA, he was educated in Virginia schools and Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston. He was a resident of Stoughton for 46 years. Mr. Shockley was a Seaman in the U.S. Navy and a Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a Power Plant Electrician at Gillette in South Boston for 37 years before retiring 15 years ago.
Mr. Shockley was twice the Past Master at St. Paul's-Algonquin Lodge A.F. & A.M. in Braintree. He was a Past President of the Kilwinning Club of Boston and a member of the Scot's Charitable Society in Boston. He also was a member of the D.A.V. In his free time he enjoyed camping, fishing and especially spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Shockley is survived by his children, Edward L. Shockley, Jr. of Middleboro, Ann L. Flynn, Gerard C. Shockley and Brian A. Shockley all of Stoughton, Karen V. Shockley of Holliston and Daniel F. Shockley of Bridgewater. He was the brother of Doris Hounshell, David Shockley and Benny Shockley all of VA, Linda Lever and Billy Shockley both of NC. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 1 great-grandson, many nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Friday, September 30 at 8 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 9 AM. Visiting Hours Thursday from 4-8 PM. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton.
