Edward L. McCallum, 91, a resident of Stoughton, died at the Copley at Stoughton on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 after a period of failing health. He was the husband of Monica J. (Fleming) McCallum for 59 years. Son of the late Grace B. (Landry) McCallum, he was born in Medford and educated in Quincy schools before graduating from Sacred Heart High School, Class of 1941 in Weymouth. Mr. McCallum then served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, where he was a Staff Sergeant and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theatre. Upon his return home, he attended the Burdett Business School, the Northeast Technology School and Wentworth Institute of Technology.
Mr. McCallum was a resident of Stoughton for the past 2 years after living in West Roxbury for 10 years and Needham for 45 years. He worked at Singer Sewing Machine Company in Roxbury for 8 years before working for several oil companies in the area. He finished his career as General Manager for Hughes Oil Company in West Roxbury, retiring in 1991. He was a Past President of the Kiwanis in West Roxbury and Newton and was a member and Past Commander of the VFW Post 2498 in Needham.
In addition to his wife, Mr. McCallum is survived by his sons, CWO3 Richard S. McCallum, USN Retired and his wife Eileen of Chesapeake, VA and SGT. Paul G. McCallum, Stoughton PD of S. Easton and his longtime girlfriend, Debbie Tarlentino. He was the grandfather of Maureen, Timothy and Jillian McCallum and great-grandfather of Ashlynn McCallum. He was the brother of Rev. Paul McCallum of Texas and the late Harold "Mac" McCallum and Robert McCallum and is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Friday, December 5 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at St. James Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Thursday from 4-7 PM. Interment with military honors will take place at St. Michael Cemetery in Avon. Donations in Edward's memory may be sent to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
