Edward J. Kelly, 81, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton after a period of failing health. He was the husband of the late Mary E. (Smyth) Kelly. Born in Malden he was raised and educated in Everett. Mr. Kelly was a Veteran of the United States Navy. He worked for the Mass. Highway Department for many years and retired at age 57 as the State Highway Foreman. A lover of cats, in his free time, he enjoyed bird watching, landscaping, driving to Cape Cod, watching Nascar and classic TV and visiting Bob's Foodmart in Stoughton.
Mr. Kelly is survived by his children, Patricia Standish and her husband Myles "Billy" Standish, James F. Kelly and Thomas E. Kelly all of Stoughton and Theresa Kelly of Norton. He was the grandfather of Kim Mylonas, Karen Standish, Danielle Kelly, Kristen Kelly and Shannon Kelly and the great grandfather of Steven Mylonas, Hailey McNeil and Hannah McNeil. He was predeceased by 10 brothers and sisters and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Prayers will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Saturday at 10 AM. Visiting Hours Friday from 5-8 PM. Interment will take place at Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton. Donations in his name may be made to the Old Colony Hospice, 1 Credit Union Way, Randolph, MA 02368.
