Edward C. Hoffman, Jr., 81, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died Thursday, March 17, 2011 at the Lifecare Center of West Bridgewater after a period of failing health. He was the beloved husband of 53 years of Dorothy L. (Hannaway) Hoffman. Born in Bridgeport, CT, he moved to Allston, MA at age 9 and was a graduate of Allston Schools. Mr. Hoffman was a Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps and a Veteran of World War II. Mr. Hoffman worked as a Claims Adjuster for Home Insurance for many years, retiring 20 years ago. He was a member of the Stoughton Chamber of Commerce, the Stoughton Jaycees and was the Past King Lion of the Stoughton Lions Club. In his free time, he enjoyed golfing.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Hoffman is survived by his five sons, Robert E. and his wife Patricia of N. Reading, David M. and his wife Anne of Stoughton, Steven P. and his wife Clorinda and James P. and his wife Bettina all of North Easton and Edward D. and his wife Christine of Stoughton. He was the son of Edward C. Hoffman of Canton and the late Margaret M. (Holmberg) Hoffman. He is also survived by his brother William A. Hoffman and his wife Barbara of Lynnfield, 15 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be held in the Immaculate Conception Church, 122 Canton St., Stoughton on Monday, March 21 at 9 AM. Visiting Hours Omitted. Burial will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton. Donations to the Stoughton Lions Club, POB 566, Stoughton, 02072 would be greatly appreciated by Ed and his family.
