Edward A. Hanley, Jr., 91, died Friday, November 17, 2017 at the Morton Hospital in Taunton. He was the husband of 66 years of the late Mary Theresa (Reardon) Hanley. Born in Somerville, he was raised and educated in Arlington and Boston and was a graduate of Arlington High School. Mr. Hanley was a proud Veteran of the US Army in both World War II and Korea. He was a resident of Stoughton for over 50 years. Mr. Hanley worked as a Teacher for the City of Boston at the Robert Gould Shaw Middle School in West Roxbury for several years, retiring many years ago. Prior to teaching, he worked as a proofreader for The Pilot for several years. He was a member of the Boston Teacher's Union and the International Typographical Union. Mr. Hanley was the former President of the Immaculate Conception Religious Education Program. He was a former Little League Umpire. In his free time, Ed enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing and hunting.
Mr. Hanley was the father of Mary Anne Casserly and John P. Hanley both of Middleboro, Thomas J. Hanley of Brockton, James M. Hanley of East Dennis, Clare L. Grenon and Timothy S. Hanley both of Bridgewater, Kevin F. Hanley of N. Andover, Kathleen E. Kelley of Wrentham and the late Edward A. Hanley. He was the brother of the late Catherine Garside, Edna Barto, Anna Parish, John Hanley and Rose Hederman. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Wednesday, November 22 at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10 AM. Visiting Hours Tuesday, November 21, from 4-7 PM. Interment will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
