Edmund J. "Ned" Murphy, Jr, 74, a longtime resident of Stoughton and former resident of Milton, died Sunday, April 24, 2011, at the Copley at Stoughton Nursing Home after a period of failing health. He was the husband of Mary Ellen (Murphy) Murphy. Born in Charlestown, he was raised in Milton and was a graduate of Boston Trade School. He was a Veteran of the US Navy Reserves. Mr. Murphy was the owner and founder of Murphy & Fahy Construction Co. in Stoughton since 1976. Prior to that, he worked for New England Telephone as a Construction Head Lineman for over 19 years. He was a member of the 100 Club and the Knights of Columbus in both Stoughton and Milton. Mr. Murphy was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. He enjoyed spending summers at his home in Pocasset.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children; Edmund J. "Ned" Murphy III of Milton, John M. of Pembroke, James M. "Jay" Murphy of Randolph, Mark J. of CO and Kara A. Murphy of Milton. He was the brother of John F. of Milton and Richard G. of Marshfield. He was predeceased by his grandson John M. Murphy and his wife Katherine A. (Meehan) Murphy. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Saturday, April 30 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Friday from 5-8 PM. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton. Donations in Ned's memory may be made to American Heart Assn., 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
