Edgar G. Foster, 81, a lifelong resident of Stoughton, died at the Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton on Sunday, August 6. He was the husband of Betty W. (Smith) Foster. Born in Stoughton, Mr. Foster was a graduate of Stoughton High School, Class of 1943. He was an U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II, serving on the USS Hornet in the Pacific. Mr. Foster was a machinist at Northrop Grumman in Norwood for 35 years then with Trim Alloy in Randolph for 13 years before retiring over 5 years ago. Mr. Foster was a member and past Commander of the American Legion Post 89 in Stoughton as well as past County Commander and Sr. Vice Commander of Massachusetts. He was also a member and past Commander of the VFW Post 1645 in Stoughton as well as the Bar Manager for 6 years. He worked on both Boys State and Voice of Democracy with the American Legion and VFW.
In addition to his wife Mr. Foster is survived by his children, Janet E. McIntyre of WA, Stephen G. Foster of Brockton, Gail F. Kilroy of E. Taunton, Matthew J. Foster of IN, Beth A. Caddell of NH and Amy L. Raymond of Sharon; his grandchildren, Daniel, Paula, Josh, Adam, Brian, Melissa, Patrick, Michael, Ashley, Courtney, Jason, Cameron and Kim; his brothers, Leo F. Foster and Joseph Foster both of Stoughton and his sister, Mary Bartels of Bedford. He is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Rita Baldwin, Helen Stewart, Margaret Danahy and Eileen LaCivita.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Friday, August 11 at 9:15 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:15 AM. Visiting Hours Wed. & Thursday 5-8 PM. Interment will take place at Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton.
