Dorothy E. "Betty Ann" (French) Sgro, 87, a longtime resident of South Easton, died at St. Joseph Manor in Brockton on Monday, June 16, 2014. Daughter of the late Wesley A. and Dorothy I. (Boutilier) French, she was born and raised in Stoughton and graduated from Stoughton High School. She was a resident of South Easton for the past 35 years. Betty Ann was an entertainer with Betty Ann and the Country Group for over 40 years. She was a longtime member of the South Shore Country Music Association, which was very dear to her heart. She was inducted into the Massachusetts Country Music Hall of Fame in 2003.
She was the mother of the late Peter J. Sgro, Jr. and Cherylann Hammond as well as the grandmother of Kelly Anderson of Owego, NY and Jayme Hammond of Barton, NY. She was the mother-in-law of Audrey Sgro of Wareham and Marvin Hammond of Middleboro and is also survived by 3 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
