Dorothy A. (Stanton) McCarthy, 80, a resident of Foxboro, died Wednesday, February 16 at the Boston Medical Center. She was the wife of the late John J. McCarthy. Born in Revere, she was raised in Somerville and graduated from Somerville High School, Class of 1946. She was a resident of Foxboro for 15 years after living in Stoughton for 36 years. Mrs. McCarthy was a secretary at Stoughton High School for 10 years and also worked at Spoontiques in Stoughton for several years before retiring over 15 years ago. She enjoyed traveling, playing the piano, the performing arts, and was an avid reader. Dorothy loved outdoor activities, especially walking, golfing and skiing. Family and friends were the center of her life.
Mrs. McCarthy is survived by her children, Kevin J. McCarthy of Norton, Gail L. McAuley of Costa Rica and Joan M. Kasprik of Underhill, VT, as well as her grandchildren, Olivia and John McCarthy, Matthew McAuley, Chelsea Grenier and Connor and Sasha Kasprik. She was the sister of the late Walter Stanton, John Stanton, Mildred Stanton and Louise Lister. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary Church, 58 Carpenter St., Foxboro on Friday, February 25 at 10 AM. Visiting hours will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Thursday from 4-8 PM. Burial will be private.
