Dorothy E. (Hemphill) Clarke, 75, a longtime resident of Quincy passed away while surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 after a recent illness. Dorothy was the daughter of the late James and Eugenia E. (Guilfoy) Hemphill. She was born in Boston and raised in Dorchester. Dorothy was a graduate of Hyde Park High School. She raised her family in Auburn, ME before moving to Quincy 30 years ago. Mrs. Clarke was a homemaker, a certified nursing assistant, and a customer service representative. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, quilting, and crafts, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Dorothy was the loving mother of son Richard E. Clarke and partner Linda VanLoan of West Bridgewater, daughter Bernadette T. Bechard and husband Grant of Queensbury, NY, son Daniel J. Clarke and wife Chimwemwe of Randolph, son Kenneth J. Clarke and wife Kathy of Litchfield, ME and daughter Ellen J. Gagne and husband Edmund of Raymond, ME. She was the sister of Nancy Hazelwood of Lakeville, Robert Hemphill of Quincy, Kathleen King of Quincy, James Hemphill of Plymouth, Donna Parshley of Stoughton and the late Jeanne Parenteau and Norman Hemphill. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and one very special aunt, Florence "Flossy" Collins. She was the former wife of the late Richard E. Clarke.
Visiting Hours will be at the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Tuesday, July 19th from 4-7 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at the Immaculate Conception Church, 122 Canton St., Stoughton at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, July 20th. Interment will be private. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at MGH for their compassionate care of their dear mother.
