Doris M. (O'Toole) Holmes, 77, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died peacefully at home on Thursday, October 8 surrounded by her family. She was the wife of Richard G. Holmes. Born in Boston, she was raised in Dorchester and graduated from Jeremiah E. Burke High School. She was a resident of Stoughton for 50 years. Mrs. Holmes was a homemaker. She also worked as a stitcher for Canton Samples for many years, a computer operator for Hills Department Store Corporate Office in Canton, a clerk at Ouellet's Pharmacy in Stoughton and a crossing guard in Stoughton before retiring several years ago. An avid Bingo player and Patriots fan, she also enjoyed camping with her son.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Holmes is survived by her children, Stephen P. Holmes of Bridgewater, Michael R. Holmes, Christine Cofsky and Kim Tracey all of Stoughton, Katherine O'Brien of E. Bridgewater and Karen Coffey of Sharon. She was the sister of Joseph O'Toole of Dorchester, Robert O'Toole of Milton, Eileen Bassett of CO and the late Sister Katherine O'Toole, Francis O'Toole, Coleman O'Toole, Mary Grant, Anna Daly and Thomas O'Toole. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Tuesday, October 13 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Monday 4-8 PM. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton. Donations in Doris' name may be made to VA Medical Center, 150 S. Huntington Ave.(135), Boston, MA 02130.
