Donald “Don” G. Holmes, 66, died unexpectedly at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton on Monday, April 10, 2023. Born in Boston, he was raised and educated in Sharon and graduated from Sharon High School with the class of 1974. Donald went on to earn an associate degreee in electrical engineering from Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston. In 1978, he married Barbara L. Lambert in Stowe, VT, and together they shared over 44 years of marriage. Donald was a longtime employee of Boston Edison and retired as an Electrical Customer Service Designer from NStar. He was a member of the IBEW Local 369 in Braintree. He retired in 2015.
Donald was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting with family in Vermont and fly fishing in Polaski, NY. He enjoyed spending time camping and traveling in his camper with his wife Barbara and their Maine Coon cats, who have been their constant and well-loved companions. Donald’s passion was target shooting and was a gifted pistol shooter, earning several awards at the Bay State Games and he was recognized as a Distinguished Shooter at national matches held at Camp Perry, OH. He loved the principles and culture of competition shooting, especially sharing the experience with friends at annual events like the “Lobster” match in Poland Spring Maine. He was a coach and mentor to many and was committed to the safe practice of the sport.
Don will be remembered as a dedicated friend with a big heart who would not hesitate to share a meal or a story and help anyone in need.
In addition to his wife Barbara L. Holmes of Stoughton, he is survived by his siblings, Richard Holmes of Lebanon NH and Merilyn Holmes of Salem MA. Known as “Unca”, he is survived by his niece and nephews: Chris Holmes, Dan Holmes, Brad Lambert, Mark Lambert, Michael Schneider & Heather Schneider. He is also survived by many more grand-nieces and nephews.
Funeral Prayers will be offered in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Tuesday, April 18th, at 10 AM. Visiting Hours Monday, April 17th from 4-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Donald’s memory may be made to a charity personal for you.
