Donald W. Haggerty, 79, died April 29, 2016 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, after a short period of failing health. He was the husband of 60 years of Joan A. "Tootsie" (Larkin) Haggerty. Born in Boston, he was raised and educated Dorchester and Jamaica Plain and was a graduate of Boys Latin. He was a Veteran of the US Army. Mr. Haggerty was a member of Ironworkers Local 7 in Boston and was employed by NuWay Construction. After suffering an injury, he returned to school and graduated from Stonehill College in Easton. He then began his career with Merkert Enterprises in Canton and retired several years ago as the Assistant Vice Treasurer. Mr. Haggerty was an avid supporter of local Veterans Affairs. He was a longtime member of Local 7 and the Stoughton YMCA. In his free time, he enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, scrabble and sitting by the ocean, especially at Lido Beach in Longboat Key, FL.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children; Donna M. Gwynn and her husband Richard Ohrenberger of Attleboro, Debra A. Gaultier and her husband Daniel of Raynham and Donald W. Haggerty, Jr. and his fiancé Cynthia Moore. He was the beloved "Grumpy" of Justin Gwynn, Mallory Gwynn, Jennifer Guererro and Danielle Lynburner. He was the great grandfather of Alyssa Gwynn, Jordan Monteiro, Michael Monteiro and Jayce Despar. Mr. Haggerty was the brother of Edward Haggerty of Middleboro, Paul Bayides of Sandwich and the late William Haggerty. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Friday, May 6, 2016, at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Thursday, May 5 from 5-8 PM. Interment will take place at Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton.
