Diana M. (MacDonald) Swenson, 84, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died peacefully at The Village at Willow Crossings in Mansfield on Wednesday, August 30, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Roy M. Swenson, Jr. Daughter of the late Alfred A. and Helen B. (Gariboldi) MacDonald, she was born in Boston and raised in Dorchester. She was a Class of 1956 graduate of Archbishop Cushing High School in South Boston. She was a resident of Stoughton since 1968. Diana was a wonderful homemaker who truly loved being a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and Marine wife. She also worked as a teacher’s aide at both the South Elementary and West Elementary Schools in Stoughton for over 10 years. She was an active communicant of Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Stoughton and St. Michael’s Church in Avon. She enjoyed playing cards but her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
Diana is survived by her loving children, Scott M. Swenson of Wrentham, Thomas J. Swenson and his wife Pamela of Pembroke, Julie A. Giroux and her husband Richard of Stoughton and Karen M. Swenson of Stoughton. She was the devoted grandmother of TJ, Andrew, Daniel, Chloe, Zachary, Kaylyn, Katherine and Michael and great-grandmother of Myles, Declan, Sophie, Reagan and Grace. She was the sister of Jeannette Ross of California, Marilyn Neidetcher of Illinois, Theresa MacDonald and Michael MacDonald both of Florida and the late Alfred MacDonald, Linda Heslin, James MacDonald and John MacDonald. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family, friends and the Originally from Dorchester “OFD” Gang.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Thursday, September 7 at 10 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at St. James Church, Stoughton at 11 AM. Visiting Hours Wednesday from 4-7 PM. Interment will take place at Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton. In lieu of flowers, donations in Diana‘s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
