David P. Sears, 69, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died unexpectedly on Saturday, December 10 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton. He was the husband of Helen T. (Tintle) Sears. Born in Boston, he was raised and educated in Hyde Park. He was a resident of Stoughton for the past 45 years. He also enjoyed wintering in Anna Maria Island, FL for many years. Mr. Sears was a Private 1st Class in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving from 1959-1963. He was an oil burner technician for 40 years, working for Waverly Oil and Brotherhood Oil both in Brockton, as well as being self-employed until his retirement in 1997. Mr. Sears was a member of the VFW Post 1645 and the AMVETS Post 1977 both in Stoughton, the American Legion in Dedham and the Stoughton Historical Society. He enjoyed woodworking, playing cards, history and volunteering.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Sears is survived by his daughters, Carol-Lynne Papa and her husband Michael of Gardner, Sharon McNamara and her husband Matthew of Portsmouth, RI, Jennifer Sears of Woburn and Julie Gillis and her companion James Kahler of Stoughton, as well as his grandchildren, Caitlin and Nicholas Papa and Maggie and Bridgit McNamara. He was the brother of Gertrude Randall and Janet Andrews both of FL, Joan Daszkiewicz of Plainville, Diane MacIntosh of Canada and the late Robert, Frederick and John Sears. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Friday, December 16 at 11 AM. Visiting Hours Thursday from 4-8 PM. Interment will take place at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. In lieu of flowers, donations in David's memory may be sent to Massachusetts History Day, c/o John Hassen, 63 Cinderella Cir., Dracut, MA 01826-1307.
