David John Rentsch

David J. Rentsch, 69, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton. Born in Rochester, NY, son of the late George and Norma “Jerry” (Clifford) Rentsch, he was educated in Greece, NY and was a graduate of Greece Arcadia High School in Greece, NY. He then attended and graduated from SUNY Geneseo, Class of 1976. David later graduated from Northeastern School of Law in Boston and began his legal career in Tennessee where he met his wife Jacqui while they were studying for the bar. He married Jacquelynne J. Bowman in 1984 after which they relocated to Massachusetts. Together they raised their son Atticus and later, his nephew Nathaniel after the death of David’s sister Maria. He was a resident of Stoughton for over 38 years and was a summer resident of Harwich for many years.

David worked as a Lawyer for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Correction from 1987-2019 and previously for the Department of Social Services from 1985-1987. He retired in 2019. David was an avid golfer and enjoyed golfing with his son and brothers at Cranberry Valley in Harwich, Cedar Hill in Stoughton and Ponkapoag Golf Course in Canton, among others. Famous for his Dad Jokes and puns, he loved spending time in Harwich, listening to live music, hiking and was happiest surrounded by his beloved family and friends.

David is survived by his wife Jacquelynne J. Bowman-Rentsch of Stoughton, his son Atticus DB Rentsch and his fiancé Marissa Horgan of Waltham and his nephew Nathaniel Rentsch of ME. He was the brother of Gary Rentsch and his wife Joan of MD, Patricia Kuhl and her husband James of NY and Harwich, Robert Rentsch and his wife Kathleen of Worcester and the late Maria Rentsch. He is also survived by loving sisters-in-law Renee Amason, Cynthia Bethea and Teresa Joyce along with several other nieces and nephews.

Visiting Hours will be held at the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rte. 27), Stoughton on Saturday, September 21st from 10 AM-12 PM with Funeral Prayers and Reflections to follow at 12 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in David’s memory may be made to Greater Boston Food Bank, the American Red Cross or the Greater Boston Legal Services.
