Daniel S. "Dan" Mahoney, 83, a longtime resident of Franklin, died peacefully at home on Monday, September 11, 2017. He was the beloved husband of Phyllis A. (Kearns) Mahoney for 45 years. Loving son of the late William and Sophie Mahoney, he was born and raised in Stoughton. Dan was a graduate of Stoughton High School, Class of 1951 and Stonehill College, Class of 1955. He was a resident of Franklin for the past 30 years. Dan served in the U.S. Army Reserves and worked for John Hancock as an auditor for 27 years before retiring 23 years ago. He loved sports, especially golf, bird watching, gardening, scratch tickets and occasional trips to Twin Rivers and Foxwoods. He traveled the world with Phyllis and loved their trip back to his family roots in Ireland.
In addition to his wife, Dan is survived by his children, Cynthia A. Schlager and her husband Brian of Rockland, Linda J. Muffuletto and Steven J. Mahoney both of Pembroke and William S. Mahoney of Sagamore. He was the loving grandfather of Alexander, Robert, Ashley, Ryan, Julie, Patrick and Trevor. He was the caring brother of the late William and Donald Mahoney and Mary Mayo. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Philip Kearns of Franklin as well as many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Thursday, September 14 at 10 AM. Visiting Hours Wednesday from 4-7 PM. Interment will take place at Westview Cemetery, Lexington. In lieu of flowers donations in Dan's memory may be made to American Heart Assn., PO Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241.
