Daniel J. Herlihy

Daniel J. Herlihy, 67, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died unexpectedly on Thursday, March 4 at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston. He was the husband of Carol A. (LaFrance) Herlihy. Born and raised in Somerville, he was a graduate of St. Mary's High School in Cambridge, Class of 1960 and Stonehill College in Easton, Class of 1965. He was a resident of Stoughton since 1972. Mr. Herlihy worked at Avon High School for 35 years, first as a teacher and towards the end of his career as Principal before retiring in 2001. He also coached both basketball and baseball at Avon High School for most of his career. He then taught at Brockton High School in the Math Department until 2008. He also taught at the Old Colony YMCA in Brockton for the past 2 years. Mr. Herlihy was a lifetime member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association and the National Education Association. He was also a member of the Stoughton Historical Society, the Old Colony YMCA and the Irish Cultural Center in Canton. He enjoyed gardening, walking, playing golf and spending time with his family, especially his 4 grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Herlihy is survived by his children, Corinne M. Herlihy and her partner Sue Seufert of NY, Cristen A. Tabors and her husband Dave of Weston and Daniel W. Herlihy and his wife Clare of MD, as well as his grandchildren, Caitlyn and Jackson Tabors and Cooper and Colby Herlihy. He was the brother of Ann Quinn of Norwood, Jean MacDonald of Weymouth, Patricia Howard of N. Easton, Kathleen Kendrick of NC, Walter "Buzz" Herlihy of Walpole, Thomas Herlihy of CT, Claire Shaw of MI, Mary Herlihy of Shrewsbury, William Herlihy of Milton, John Herlihy of Woburn and the late Henry and Paul Herlihy. He was the brother-in-law of William LaFrance and his wife Maureen of Quincy. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Holy Cross Church, 225 Purchase St., Easton on Thursday, March 11 at 11 AM. Visiting Hours will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Wednesday from 4-8 PM. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton.
