Daniel V. Fitzpatrick, 89, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, March 1st. He was the husband of the late Theresa C. (McGrail) Fitzpatrick. He was the son of the late Francis W. and Anne J. (Gill) Fitzpatrick and brother of the late Eleanor and Frank Fitzpatrick. Born and raised in Dorchester, he graduated from Boston English High School. He served with the 75th Infantry Division in the European Theatre during World War II where he received the Combat Infantry Badge and the Purple Heart. Dan was active for many years with the Golden Rays Drum and Bugle Corps, the Telephone Pioneers, the Association of Fleet Management Supervisors and the Society of Automotive Engineers. He was a charter member of St. Mark Post, 1758 VFW where he served as Commander 1951- 1952. He was active in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, Stoughton and St. James Church, Stoughton where he served as an acolyte, lector, usher and CCD teacher. In recognition of his dedicated and faithful service he received the Bishop Cheverus Award from Cardinal Sean P. O'Malley in November 2011.

Mr. Fitzpatrick is survived by his children, Daniel V. Jr. and his wife Charlotte of East Fallowfield, PA, Stephen F. of Stoughton, Anne C. Hepworth and her husband Richard A. of Sandwich, MA and Millinocket, ME , Paul M. and his wife Cherie of Stoughton, Marie T. Garrity and her husband Robert J. of Wareham and Joseph J. of Vienna, VA. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Mr. Fitzpatrick is also survived by his nephew Francis W. Fitzpatrick and his niece Evelyn R. (Fitzpatrick) O'Reilly.

Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Thursday, March 6 at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at St. James Church, Stoughton at 10 AM. Visiting Hours Wednesday from 5-8 PM. Interment will be held at VA National Cemetery, Bourne.
