Clare A. (Leard) Costa, 74, died Saturday, July 19 at the home of her daughter, after a short illness. She was the wife of the late James E. Costa. Born in Somerville, she was raised and educated in Somerville and Mansfield and was a graduate of Mansfield High School. Mrs. Costa was a resident of Stoughton since 1972. Along with her husband, she was the owner of J & C Variety Store in Abington for over 20 years, retiring in 2001. After her retirement, she worked as a clerk at St. Vincent de Paul in Stoughton for several years. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, sewing, gardening and spending time with her family.
She was the beloved mother of James E. Costa, Jr. and his wife Helen of Brockton, Tina M. Roberts and her husband Edward of Stoughton and the late Robyn A. Costa. She was the grandmother of Jenepher M. Bates, Robyn A. Costa, James M. Costa, Nicholas E. Roberts, Courtney M. Roberts and Stephanie A. Roberts. She was the sister of Bernard Leard of NH, George "Buddy" Leard of OK and the late Richard Leard. She is also survived by 3 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St., (Rt. 27) Stoughton on Friday, July 25 from 9-10 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church at 10:30 AM. Interment will take place at VA National Cemetery, Bourne. Donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 480 Pleasant St, Watertown, MA 02472.
