Claire A. (McLaughlin) LeRoy, of Bridgewater, passed away on March 16, 2013. She was under the care of hospice and private care aides in her home for over three years. She passed away peacefully at Wedgemere Nursing Home in Taunton.
Claire was born in Boston on August 23, 1928. She was the daughter of the late Joseph McLaughlin and Eileen (McHugh) McLaughlin. She grew up in Boston, Brookline and Stoughton and was a graduate of Brookline High School. Claire was the beloved wife of Robert W. LeRoy to whom she was married for over 52 years. In addition to her husband, she is survived by their daughter, Linda L. LeRoy of Bridgewater, MA and by two grandsons: Eric R. Olson and his wife Kimberly of Cypress, TX and Alexander J. Kane of Stoughton, MA. She is also survived by a great grandson Eli James Olson. Survived also by her devoted dog, Kazuki, her dear cousin, Patricia (Sampson) Schaaf of Wareham and two long time friends: Dottie Portoghese and Carol O'Leary.
Claire devoted over 50 years of her life to volunteer service. She was born deaf and served several years at the Randolph School for the Deaf. Over the years she served the Girl Scouts, as a troop leader and the 4-H Club, and several handicapped children's organizations. For over 25 years she hosted the neighborhood Christmas party for dozens of local children who still remember meeting the "real" Santa at the LeRoy's house. Claire's last volunteer work started with the former Goddard Hospital and spanned 27 years through to the now Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton. During that time, she lead high school groups on tours of the hospital and was active in fund raisers for the hospital through her service with the former women's auxiliary for the hospital and worked in the gift shop.
During her teenage years Claire was a roller skating champion. In her later years Claire loved sports both as a golfer in Lakeville and as a follower of the Red Sox and the Patriots. She was proud of her Irish heritage and her Catholic faith. Her hobbies included gardening, playing cards, ceramics, photography, shopping and crocheting.
Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rt.27) Stoughton on Thursday, March 21 at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Immaculate Conception Church, Stoughton at 10:30 AM. Visiting Hours Wednesday from 5-8 PM. Interment will be private. Donations in Claire's memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
